Standard Series Cells

Maxwell’s Standard Series spans a spectrum of form factors, and our strong cell design engineering experience enables us to produce cells with very low equivalent series resistance (ESR). This translates into increased power density and small system footprint to meet the specific requirements of your solution. The Standard Series is specialized for systems operating in normal ambient environments and provides system designers with the advantages of significantly more reliable performance under a wider temperature range than most other energy storage options available. Standard Series cells are customizable for a variety of applications that need fast charge/discharge capability and long life.

Premium energy storage for high shock and vibration environments

HC Series

Maxwell Technologies’ DuraBlue® Advanced Shock and Vibration Technology combines Maxwell’s patented electrode formulation and manufacturing process with a robust proprietary cell structure, resulting in a product line specialized for the most demanding shock and vibration requirements of the industrial and transportation industries.

Maxwell’s proprietary electrode process results in the formation of a durable and tough electrode with the benefit of significantly longer life compared with other energy storage technologies available. Maxwell’s innovative mechanical design behind the DuraBlue product line achieves high performance and reliability for applications in the automotive, rail and hybrid bus markets.

Exceeding Industry Standards

The test standards for Maxwell’s DuraBlue product line are IEC 60068-2-27 for shock and ISO 16750-3, Table 12.

The acceleration for IEC 60068-2-27 is 100 G, four times higher than the acceleration of SAE 2464, the test standard for competitor ultracapacitor cells. The RMS acceleration for ISO 16750-3, Table 12 is 5.9 Grms, three times higher than SAE J2380 with an acceleration of 1.9 Grms.

HC Series

Maxwell’s proprietary pseudocapacitor technology is one of the first commercially available hybrid capacitor products on the market. Our pseudocapacitors serve those customers in need of an energy storage solution that provides a combination of higher energy reserve with fast power delivery and fast charging, a long operating lifetime that reduces maintenance efforts, and a compact, lightweight and cylindrical form factor that provides flexibility for a variety of system designs.

How is a Pseudocapacitor Different from an Ultracapacitor?

The pseudocapacitor’s capabilities reside in between the ultracapacitor and the battery. Using the best of both worlds, the pseudocapacitor is able to provide a quick release of energy via an electrostatic mechanism (like an ultracapacitor) and higher storage capacity via an electrochemical mechanism (like a battery). Maxwell’s pseudocapacitors have approximately 50 to 100% more energy than ultracapacitors of similar physical dimensions. Our pseudocapacitor technology is engineered to serve the needs of low-duty cycle applications that require more energy and a fast state of charge.
